6.400 STUDENTS FROM BOGOTÁ PARTICIPATE IN “GOALS FOR A BETTER LIFE” PROGRAM

Soccer reaches the public schools as a strategy to improve school interaction within the framework of an alliance between the District Secretary of Education and the Colombianitos Foundation Inc.
 The ball is already moving in 20 public schools,pioneers in the implementation of the Goals for a Better Life” program that seeks to develop skills and competencies through dribbles, jockeys and volleys.


This is what the Colombianitos Foundation Inc. refers to as “Let’s play for peace” pedagogyand which, thanks to the commitment of Mayor Enrique Peñalosa’s government to improve interaction and school environments, is reaching the District’s students for the first time in 2017.
Under the premise that asoccer match is like life itselfbecause in it one imagines, builds, lives, cries and experiences joys and frustrations, 6,400 children and young peoplestrengthen their discipline, perseverance and, especially, learn to manage their emotions, resolve conflicts peacefully, and communicate assertively.

“In Bogotá, we understand that our children and young people are our top priority, and that is why we are making every effort to ensure that they have the opportunities and scenarios for a comprehensive education, so that they learn more and become more sociable and happier citizens,” said Mayor Enrique Peñalosa.
“Goals for a Better Life” began with the training of teachers from public schoolswho will be facilitators of the program in their institutions. They received certified theoretical-practical training to learn in depth about the program’s methodology and how to introduce it into the practices and activities of their classes.
Gelber Alfonso, a physical education teacher at the Cristóbal Colón School in the town of Usaquén, stressed that “this is a very significant intervention at this moment in time that the country is experiencing in the face of peace. By bringing these tools into our classroom we build a more peaceful society with better interaction.”
“Through this program we bring the students closer together and make the fields a setting for meaningful learning for our students, which contributes to school fellowship and the creation of a peaceful Bogotá,” highlights María Victoria Angulo, the district’s Education Secretary.
The “King Sport” joins the program of Bogota to transform its schools into scenarios of reunification and reconciliation. With a goal of 11 billion Colombian Pesos to be invested in 2017, it has already implemented strategies for the early prevention of alcohol consumption, the re-signification and appropriation of the territory through artistic interventions,and the implementation of the Peace Chair with a focus on citizen culture.
